Abstract

For nearly five centuries, Jakarta has stood as Indonesia’s economic hub, contributing significantly to both national and regional growth. With the planned relocation of Indonesia’s capital to Nusantara, Jakarta is reimagining its future by setting a bold vision to be among the world’s top 20 global cities by 2045. Central to this ambition is Kearney’s Global Cities Index (GCI), which measures cities’ ability to attract capital, talent, and ideas across five dimensions: Business Activity, Human Capital, Information Exchange, Cultural Experience, and Political Engagement. Despite its importance in Southeast Asia, Jakarta’s GCI ranking has slipped from #54 in 2015 to #74 in 2024, primarily due to deficits in Human Capital and Information Exchange, underscoring the urgency for strategic reforms. This book focuses on the second imperative of Jakarta’s transformation: building a Diversified, Robust, and Inclusive Economy. It outlines strategies for strengthening advanced industries, transforming coastal and industrial zones, boosting MSMEs and startups, and enhancing Jakarta’s investment climate. By diversifying growth sectors and ensuring inclusivity, Jakarta aims to establish a resilient foundation to elevate its role as a competitive and globally connected economic powerhouse
